Personal profile

Samuel Komakech is an Associate Professor in the Accounting and Finance Department of the Leicester Castle Business School. He is the Chair of Postgraduate Accounting, Finance & Economics Management and Progression and Award Boards of the School of Accounting, Finance and Economics. He is a member of the Faculty Academic Committee (FAC) of the Faculty of Business and Law, and a member of the Development and Review Committee (DARC) of the Faculty of Business and Law. He led the ED2030 sprints at which the new postgraduate ED2030 programmes were developed.

He was the programme leader for the MSc Risk Management (FT and DL) programme till 2020, is involved in resource allocation within the Accounting and Finance Department and leads numerous modules. He has been involved in higher education since 2003, when he joined Âéw¶¹´«Ã½. He teaches financial decision making, management accounting, financial management, corporate finance, governance and sustainability, performance management, and research methods. He is also a visiting scholar at the Sunwah International Business School (Liaoning University) in Shenyang (China).

His research is in the areas of corporate finance and governance, public financial management and strategic management accounting, with a primary focus on the interaction between corporate financing decisions and ownership compositions and company performance in emerging markets. Samuel co-authored published articles in the Journal of Accounting & Organisational Change and a CIMA Research Monograph.  His meritorious awards include the Outstanding Paper Emerald Literati Network 2011 Award for Excellence. He also serves as a reviewer for a number of internationally recognised journals.

Samuel has a PhD, an M. Phil in Management Control, an MSc in Accounting and Finance, a BSc in Economics, and a PGCertHE.

Before joining the academia in 2003, he was a senior manager at KPMG Peat Marwick East Africa, and before that a principal tax auditor in a revenue department. He is a Fellow of ACCA, a Fellow of Higher Education Academy, a Chartered Management and Business Educator, a member of Management Control Association (MCA), and a member of British Accounting Association (BAA). He was also a consultant at GLG Council.

He is Country Champion of the Centre for African Resources Research and Development () and its educational arm, the Educational Support Initiative for Africa (ESIfA).
