I am the Head of The Leicester School of Nursing and Midwifery at Âéw¶¹´«Ã½ and I am responsible for the strategic leadership of the school including pre-registration and post-registration nursing and midwifery programmes. I am the Chair of the East Midlands Regional Council of Deans of Health Group and I am also studying for the Level 7 Senior Leader Apprenticeship which includes the postgraduate diploma in Business Administration, and Chartered Manager status.
I have worked in Higher Education for 13 years and held leadership roles at the University of Leicester and Sheffield Hallam University. I started my academic career on secondment at the University of Nottingham.
I qualified as a mental health nurse in February 2004 and worked at Rampton High Secure Hospital with men predominantly with a diagnosis of Personality Disorder. As a mental health nurse, compassion, empathy, wellbeing and empowerment are key principles that I employ within my working practice and I will continue to abide by these throughout my career
I have a Doctor of Philosophy award from Manchester Metropolitan University for my thesis entitled ‘Applying The Silences Framework to explore the mental health of professional footballers’. The main findings were published and I have presented them at the Football Collective conference. I am continuing to pursue my research interests in professional football and mental health.
