Description

Researchers from Âéw¶¹´«Ã½, Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Nottingham have spent the last 18 months building connections with Disabled People’s Organisations and academics in Granma Province, Cuba. Using an AHRC networking grant, we have been sharing our ideas about disability and participation, and learning from each other’s practice.

We would like you to join us to hear about the work we have done and what we have learned along the way, and to celebrate with us the launch of our permanent network.

At our launch event, we’ll share videos of disabled leaders in Granma talking about their organisations. You’ll also hear from Rosi Smith (Âéw¶¹´«Ã½, Education Division), Stephen Connolly (Autism Centre, Sheffield Hallam), Par Kumaraswami (Centre for Research on Cuba, Nottingham University) and Liesje Dusauzay (Sparkle Sheffield) about the collaborations we have built so far and our plans for the future. There will also be a performance from Kathryn Sturman, a singer and educator who has been part of our artist exchange with Cuban performers.

A more detailed programme and a social story with information about the venue will be shared with all attendees ahead of the event, but if you have questions about access or anything else, you can email rosi.smith@dmu.ac.uk. In the meantime, you can learn more about the network at
