Âéw¶¹´«Ã½active Session Descriptions
Thinking about attending a Âéw¶¹´«Ã½active session but want to know a bit more about it first?
Badminton
Our Âéw¶¹´«Ã½active Badminton sessions are probably our most popular activity. We put up badminton nets, provide racquets and shuttlecocks and the rest is up to you! If you're a beginner you can learn to play the game, find a quiet court to play or practice with a friend, or just get stuck in with others to have a bit of fun and meet new people.
Our Âéw¶¹´«Ã½sport Activators will be on hand to greet you and ensure you have a good experience at the session.
Basketball
Âéw¶¹´«Ã½active Basketball is a great session at Âéw¶¹´«Ã½! It's always lively, great fun and provides the perfect environment to meet new people.
There will be lots of different ways to get invoved within each session, whether you're just learning the game or want to challenge yourself against other students in some friendly competition. Our Activators are great at making sure everyone has the chance to take part in a way they would like to, and their advice on shooting is great too!
Dodgeball
Our Âéw¶¹´«Ã½active Dodgeball sessions provide a great opportunity to blow off some steam! These sessions are a bit more structured so that games can take place, so you'll be divided into teams when you arrive. It doesn't matter whether you've played before, our Âéw¶¹´«Ã½sport Activators will explain the rules and it really is pretty simple to play.
These sessions are a bit faster paced than others and are great fun to be a part of.
Indoor Football
Indoor football... we all know what that is! Also known as Futsal, our Activators organise some great sessions for you to meet new people and burn off some energy. It doesn't matter how much football you've played before, everyone is welcome.
Pilates
Âéw¶¹´«Ã½active Pilates is a group exercise class, led by a Âéw¶¹´«Ã½ Leisure instructor in one of Âéw¶¹´«Ã½'s studios.
Pilates is a form of exercise which concentrates on strengthening the body with an emphasis on core strength. This helps to improve general fitness and overall well-being. Similar to Yoga, Pilates concentrates on posture, balance and flexibility. In Pilates the chance of injury is much lower than with other more strenuous forms of exercise.
Swimming
Our Âéw¶¹´«Ã½active Swimming sessions provide you with a chance to make use of the 25m swimming pool at Âéw¶¹´«Ã½. Whether you are a regular swimmer and just want the opportunity to clock up some meters, or whether you're coming along with a friend for a social swim, you're absolutely welcome.
You do need to be able to swim in order to attend this session due to no session lead being present.
Lockers, changing rooms, showers and hair dryers are available for your use. You'll just need to bring a swimming costume and towel along with you, and don't forget your swimming hat and goggles if you wear them!
Table Tennis
This is probably our session with the most social environment. It's a great place to play some sport with friends, meet new people, test your hand eye coordination and reactions! With multiple tables available to students, you can find your own space to practice or play a game, or can mix in with others for some doubles or fun games.
Tennis
Âéw¶¹´«Ã½active Tennis is one of our popular sessions. Like all other sessions, you can come along whether this is your first experience of tennis or if you've played before. The sessions are at Victoria Park off campus, but we still provide all equipment and you'll have a great chance to meet new people and socialise on the way there!
Volleyball
Âéw¶¹´«Ã½active Volleyball is a great session. It's a high energy, lively sport and always involves laughter. Our Âéw¶¹´«Ã½sport Activators will do everything from explaining the rules and introducing basic passing techniques, to arranging you into teams for some fun gameplay!
Yoga
If you're looking to de-stress, look after your mental wellbeing or improve your body's strength to prevent injury, then we'd definitely recommend Âéw¶¹´«Ã½active Yoga.
This is another of our group exercise classes. It is a low intensity, full body workout designed to help build strength, flexibility, mobility & posture. Help find your inner peace whilst focusing on breathing & meditation. All movement is a series of flow.
Zumba
Zumba is a form of aerobic fitness exercise based on Latin American dance rhythms – essentially getting your heart rate up whilst learning some handy dance moves!
Participants are taught some basic, easy-to-learn movements which don't involve memorising complicated balance techniques or body poses and is another of our instructor-led group exercise classes. Have some fun and live out your real life Strictly!
