Policies and national context

In 2018, a survey of 4,491 students of 153 UK universities found that:

  • 70% of females and 26% of males had experienced sexual harassment or assault
  • 35% of females and 9% of males felt pressured into sexual activity.
  • 39% of respondents were made to feel responsible for their experience, and only 6% reported to the universities.
  • .

These statistics are unacceptable. All universities including Âéw¶¹´«Ã½ are working hard to address these issues. See Âéw¶¹´«Ã½’s Sexual Violence Policy for more information.

The Police recorded 1,316,800 domestic abuse related incidents and crimes in the year ending March 2019.  .

Domestic abuse support is addressed as part of Âéw¶¹´«Ã½’s Safeguarding Policy

Training and Events

At Âéw¶¹´«Ã½ we are committed to challenging inappropriate behaviour. We do this as part of the Mandala Project by developing and offering training opportunities.

We work with our partners around the university including De Montfort Student’s Union, Âéw¶¹´«Ã½ Sport and The Sexual Violence and Domestic Violence Research Network to promote ways we can increase respect on campus and challenge inappropriate behaviour. We promote healthy relationships and educate our community about respect and consent as part of our ‘active bystander’ masterclasses and events.
